Background:In 1998 Land Rover celebrated its 50th anniversary with a range of special edition models, each marking half a century of production. Among them was the Defender 90 50th Anniversary Hard Top, produced in limited numbers with only 150 built across three distinct colours. While the Atlantis Blue Station Wagon is the best known, these Hard Top models are considerably rarer. Each featured a number of unique details distinguishing them from standard production, including specific paint finishes, grey alloy wheels, alloy gear knobs and window winders, tread plates, A-bars and a special steering wheel. Retaining the rugged 300Tdi engine and traditional short-wheelbase configuration, the 50th Anniversary Hard Top combined practicality with collector appeal. The Car:This particular Defender 90 is one of only 50 Hard Tops finished in this distinctive colour and presents in very good condition throughout. It has clearly been well maintained, with a clean chassis that has been steam cleaned and wax oiled, along with the fitment of a new rear crossmember.
