Motodrome offer this lovely Rover P6, a rare 1970 Series 1 3500, finished in the oh so period 1970’s scheme of Tobacco Leaf with mid tan leather trim. Known when new as the Rover Three Thousand Five, all were supplied with automatic transmission, and were Rover’s first attempt at shoehorning their fabulous V8 into the P6 bodyshell. They were only made for 2 years before the facelifted Series II came into production, and are consequently the rarest of all UK production spec P6 variants, and rather desirable because of that. They also enjoy the unadorned bodywork and strip speedo that was lost with the introduction of the Series II, which is rather more fussy, at least externally. All P6’s, with their high level of engineering, are supremely useable for a classic in modern traffic. The odometer reads just 47000 miles. Whilst we don’t have continuous history from new to back that up 100%, what we do have lends credibility to that figure. And, the V5 only shows 3 previous keepers, with changes in 1991, 2006, and 2020, which again adds weight to the above. Speaking of history, we have the original book pack and stamped service book, and a good selection of bills. Mechanically standard save for the fitting of an electric fuel pump, and Edelbrock carburettor and manifold in place of the usual twin carb set up. This tends to give better MPG, reliability, and performance. The last owner tells us he had it resprayed in 2021 following light restoration including the fitment of new sills, brake lines, tyres and new carpets. He further had it waxoyled, and looking underneath, it appears very sound in all the vulnerable areas. Apart from new carpets (and the rare grey overmats) the interior appears original save for the fitting of a more modern stereo, and is in great shape. It glides down the road without apparent fault, belying it’s age with strong performance. A decent P6 3500 is one of my all-time favourites, and this one is very enjoyable to drive and elicits positive comments wherever I’ve parked it .
