PORSCHE BOXSTER FACELIFT -986 - £7,000

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 11th September on Thursday the 11th of September. Background: By the autumn of 1991, with Porsche struggling financially and in need of fresh ideas, senior figures travelled to the Tokyo Motor Show in search of inspiration. The company was facing declining sales of the 928 and preparing to launch the 968, itself a heavily reworked version of the 944. In February 1992 Porsche began work on a completely new model to replace the ageing 928 and to stand alongside the newly launched 968. The result was the Porsche Boxster, a mid-engine two seat roadster that marked an important turning point for the brand. It was the first Porsche since the 914 to be conceived from the outset as a roadster. The first-generation Boxster, known as the 986, arrived in late 1996 powered by a 2.5 litre flat-six engine. Its design was closely based on the Boxster concept that had wowed audiences at the 1993 Detroit Motor Show. In 2000 the entry level car was upgraded with a larger 2.7-litre engine while Porsche introduced the more powerful Boxster S, fitted with a 3.2-litre unit. Two years later the model received a subtle facelift. Among the changes were a smaller glass rear window in place of the earlier plastic version, a redesigned exhaust and intake system and an updated interior which added a glove compartment along with new electromechanical bonnet and boot release mechanisms. The Car: Delivered in the summer of 2002, this Porsche Boxster was optioned with some of the latest and greatest options. Finished in ‘Special Exterior Colour’ Polar Silver with Metropol Blue soft top, over the top of a black leather interior. The car was also optioned as the new more powerful S model with the Tiptronic automatic gearbox, a gear box that was all the rage at the turn of the millennium. Then delivered new to its first owner by Porsche Wilmslow. With just six former keepers throughout its life, this car is now offered with just over 60,000 miles. The most recent owner having just spent £7,000 on the car, bringing the car up to a lovely standard both mechanically and cosmetically. This is also in line with the good level of service history that is provided with the car, proving the love and care this Boxster has been subject to. The cosmetic condition is good, with just minor marks on the car which correlate with the age and mileage. The alloy wheels do have a few chips and while the paint could do with a polish, there are no deep marks or scratches. To go with this the rear window in the soft top has been replaced, now giving a clear view. The interior remains in good condition with some signs of wear starting to appear, mostly on the driver’s seat bolster and the steering wheel. Despite this, the rest of the interior remains in great condition with all the electrics functioning as intended. To drive, the car feels very tight. With such low milage for a Boxster of this age it is to be expected and as a result retains the driving experience that Porsche intended and journalists praised upon its release. The engine is strong and is very willing in the S-specification, while the Tiptronic gearbox applies the power smoothly through all gears. Overall, this is a great option for an everyday sportscar. A car that handled better and possibly faster than the 911 of the time. Location: Worcestershire Seller: Private Photography: Professional
