MOTO GUZZI FALCONE SPORTS 498CC - £5,000
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Motorcycle Sale at Shuttleworth - Summer 2025 on Sunday the 20th of July, Shuttleworth, Old Warden Park, Beds, SG18 9EP . Founded on 15 March 1921 in Genoa by former Air Corps members, Carlo Guzzi and Giorgio Parodi, Moto Guzzi was for many years Italy's largest motorcycle manufacturer The partnership's first bike was a Guzzi-designed 500cc machine with a horizontal single cylinder, a flathead design retained and updated for many years of production road bikes The Falcone was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1950 and was offered in Sport, Turismo and military/police specifications. It outlived all its rivals with the Turismo remaining in production until 1967 The Falcone was the last of the classic Moto Guzzis featuring a horizontal, four-stroke, 498cc, 23bhp single-cylinder mounted in a tubular, double-cradle frame with front telescopic forks, while the rear features a swingarm with spring under the engine, assisted by two shock absorbers Dating from 1952, this example is one of the much sought-after Series 1 bikes and is offered from the deceased estate of Charlie Fryer, well known vintage trials rider and motorcycle collector It has been a museum exhibit for many years before a degree of restoration was completed some years ago We understand that the bike is running but has not been ridden for some time We suggest that an element of recommissioning will be required to return the bike to the road but, once completed, we can't think of a better machine to take part in next year's Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride
