The Morgan Motor Company, a family-owned company, was founded in 1910 by Henry Frederick Stanley Morgan in Malvern, Worcestershire. The Morgan 4/4 was the Morgan Company's first car with four wheels and it appeared in 1936. Its model designation '4-4' (later '4/4') stood for four wheels and four cylinders. The original open two-seater 4-4 was introduced in 1936 and ended up being the most popular of the three body options available. 663 were built by 1939 and 249 more from 1946 to 1950, representing 53% of the overall production.

This delightful 'flat-rad' Morgan 4/4 was originally bodied by Motorists Ltd in North London and is presented in red with black carpets, a Canadian Maple dashboard and classic five dials. Sometime later SXS 943 was exported to the USA and not repatriated until 2018. The former owner purchased it as a 2020 'lockdown project' and proceeded to strip and rebuild the car, the original engine, a Standard Triumph engine, was not serviceable and thus was replaced with a rebuilt Mk. I Spitfire engine being very close to the original. Also fitted was a new clutch and overhauled gearbox, all new tyres, front and rear suspension components including brakes and steering are original but have all been carefully rebuilt. We are reliably informed repairs were made to the ash frame and the chromework has been restored. A hood, side screens and tonneau have been fabricated for wet weather. The vendor also informs us that the car has only been driven on fair-weather days, and never in the wet covering less than 500 miles since the rebuild. Within the history file is a large file of photographs from the rebuild, 600 plus at the last count. A Morgan will create interest wherever they appear, this early example will create more than most.
