HSJ 639 was first registered as new on the 10th July 1962 having been exported to the British Colony Brunei which gained it's independence on the 1st January 1984. The vehicle is a Mark 1 MG Midget but has had numerous upgrades during it's 61-year history. The vehicle was rescued from the Borneo Jungle in 1983 by Dr David Wood a Yorkshire vet who spent the next 3 years restoring the vehicle including upgrading the doors and windscreen to Mk2 as well as fitting front disc brakes. In a letter dated the 19th March 1986 from Dr Wood to Spridgebits Ltd he orders parts for the restoration of Birmingham he states in the last paragraph. You may be interested to know that the car in question is the only one in this country. I have spent the last 16 months restoring it to as nearly new condition as I can make it. Naturally I’m in a hurry to get these few remaining parts so I can finish the job and put her on the road. The vehicle was sold by Dr Wood to Mrs Anne Saunders a teacher in February 1989 who was a resident of Brunei who exported the vehicle to the UK in February 1991. Mrs Saunders remained the owner for 26 years before selling it to the owner of a garage in 2015. The vehicle was put in the main showroom on display in order to attract attention and potential customers where it remained without moving. The vehicle has travelled approximately 250 miles in the past 17 years. The vehicle has been serviced, brakes checked and adjusted. New handbrake mechanism and cable.
