MERCEDES 220SE - £17,000
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 29th May on Thursday the 29th of May. BackgroundThe story began in 1992 with a family-friendly Lancer saloon that someone at Mitsubishi decided to equip with the 244hp / 228lb ft 4G63T 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and AWD drivetrain from the Galant VR-4 — a very credible world rally car developed over two decades on the world’s rally stages.244hp was a lot of power in the early 1990s, so that first road-going Lancer Evolution made quite a statement. Some say that 5,000 first-generation Evos were made exclusively for the Japanese market; others put the number at 2,500. Whatever the exact figure, they all sold within the first three days of going on sale. Mitsubishi introduced the Lancer Evolution IX in Japan on 3 March 2005, and exhibited the car at the Geneva Motor Show for the European market on the same day. The North American markets saw the model exhibited at the New York International Auto Show the following month. The 1,997cc 4G63 inline-four engine features MIVEC technology and a revised turbocharger design, boosting official power output at the crankshaft to 287bhp and torque to 289lb/ft.
