Production continued until 1980, although export to the US ceased in 1974. The MG B GT sported a greenhouse designed by Pininfarina and launched the sporty ‘hatchback’ style. By combining the sloping rear window with the rear deck lid, the B GT offered the utility of a station wagon while retaining the style and shape of a coupé. This new configuration was a 2+2 design with a right-angled rear bench seat and far more luggage space than in the roadster. Although acceleration of the GT was slightly slower than that of the roadster, owing to its increased weight, top speed improved by 5mph to 105mph because of better aerodynamics. The Car This MG B has been stored in a barn since the early 2000s, it has believed to have covered just 26,000 miles from when it rolled out the Abingdon factory 1972 until it was put away. It has loads of MOT documents from the 1980s to suggest that it is correct. The vehicle was registered on 18th April 1972, as shown by the photos its on the correct chrome bumpers and wire wheels, the shell of the car is believed to be in very strong condition and the vendor says it has been stored in a dry garage so kept away from moisture. The car runs and drives, but would recommend a light recommissioning before going back on the road. It’s fitted with a light brown cloth interior which looks to be in remarkable condition and with a good clean these would come up like new. Its still fitted with all the correct smiths’ dials, with the speedometer still showing 26,000 miles.
