1970 LOTUS SEVEN S3 - £24,995
The first Lotus Seven was introduced way back in 1957 followed by the series 2 in 1960 and the series 3 in 1968. The finally edition series 4 was launched in May 1970 and ran for three years until Caterham took over the S4 production, however this ceased in 1974 and Caterham re introduced the series 3 which is the basis of all Caterham 7’s today. Purchased in kit form from Lotus Components Ltd with a 1600 GT Ford ‘Crossflow’ engine that was also supplied by Lotus subsidiary – Racing Engines of Hethel, it was road registered 1st May 1970. This truly excellent example was restored by an engineer and Lotus specialist in 2020 and remains in fantastic condition. Still fitted with a rebuilt 1600GT engine fed by twin Weber carbs and 4-speed gearbox it sits on the original Ford wheels and has its original Ford steering wheel. The attention to detail of this car led it to be featured in Absolute Lotus magazine buyer’s guide as the example car, a copy of this article is supplied along with a history file that also contains the original bills of sale, a buff logbook and invoices for a recent service and MoT until July 2025. In great running order and is supplied with a tonneau cover and full weather equipment. It must be among the very best examples currently on offer.
