The original Land Rover Series began production in Solihull in 1948 and until its decades-long production run ended in 2016, more than two million Defenders were produced, becoming a British automotive icon. Since production ceased, the revered model has been in increased demand from both collectors and those willing to use this tough, utilitarian vehicle in the way it was designed for. It was only in 1989, following the introduction of the all-new Land Rover Discovery, that the Defender received its own name.

This extremely rare original petrol V8 12 seat Land Rover Defender County has been well maintained and though presenting with a great 'Land Rover patina' to the exterior the interior is in remarkably good condition for the age. This example presented in Blue with the original County decals and grey cloth trim boasts just five owners from new, the first was Land Rover who used it as a demonstrator, the second a lady from 1991 until 2008, the third another long-term custodian until 2020, our vendor purchasing in 2024 from the fourth owner.

Given the rarity (we could only find one original V8 CSW for sale) and low ownership of this matching numbers example unsurprisingly the car is in very good order, the vendor stating that both chassis and bulkhead are solid as testified by a MoT until February 2026 which was awarded with no advisories. He also mentioned it runs and drives exceptionally well; no unwanted knocks or bangs can be used immediately. In February this year prior to the MoT over £1,500 was spend on required work including any welding, if necessary, plus attention to the brakes after all this is a car that he transports his young family around in.

Within the history file is the original purchase invoice from 1991, original sales brochure and V5 registration coupled to a box file full of paperwork from new including invoices for the welding to the chassis and rear cross member which was also treated and protected (with photos of the chassis before and after). Sitting on excellent tyres with a great history and no immediate work required this is a wonderfully practical and desirable rare model. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
