1967 JAGUAR E TYPE SERIES 1 4.2 FHC - £69,995

Here’s an opportunity to buy a very special home market car with a great history. When we sold this beautiful E-Type Series 1.5 to its last owner in 2009, it sold before it was advertised. It has been a cherished collectors car since it was just nine years old. Its first appearance at a club event was at the E-Type day with the Jaguar Drivers Club at Penhurst Place in May 1976. In both 1978 and 1979 it was present at the international E-type day at Mallory Park. The car was also present at the Guinness world record attempt for the largest parade of Jaguar cars on the 50th anniversary of the E-type launch at Silverstone in 2011. Adding to the cars provenance, this example remarkably was one of 50 cars chosen for the the Jaguar E-Type 50th anniversary celebration at the 2011 Geneva International Motor Show, which included a special convoy and gathering of 50 E-Type Jaguars recreating the car's original 1961 launch journey. The model was first unveiled to the world on March 15, 1961, at a press event held at the Restaurant du Parc des Eaux-Vives in Geneva, Switzerland—just ahead of that year's motor show. Due to overwhelming media interest, Jaguar's chief test driver Norman Dewis famously drove a second prototype overnight from the Coventry factory to Geneva, covering about 750 miles in just 11 hours at an average speed of 68 mph. This daring run helped cement the E-Type's reputation as a groundbreaking sports car capable of 150 mph, blending stunning design, performance, and affordability (priced at around £2,097 in the UK, half the cost of rivals like the Ferrari 250 GT). To mark the 50th anniversary in 2011, Jaguar organised a series of global events throughout the year, with the Geneva Motor Show serving as the centerpiece. A highlight was a commemorative road trip: 50 meticulously prepared E-Types—sourced from private owners, Jaguar's heritage collection, and enthusiast groups—travelled in convoy from Coventry to Geneva. The drive spanned several days, navigating European highways, and tackling alpine passes like the Gotthard, before arriving in Geneva on the eve of the show (March 7–8, 2011). The cars gathered at the historic du Parc des Eaux-Vives restaurant for a parade and display, where owners shared stories, and attendees retraced a portion of Dewis's original 1961 test route around Lake Geneva and a nearby hill climb. This gathering symbolised the E-Type's enduring legacy, with the cars representing a mix of Series 1 Roadsters and Coupes, some restored to concours condition. 66 EWU is a gorgeous example that was comprehensively restored, with a detailed record of the work in 1989. The last owner has kept the car in splendid condition and during his ownership the car was re-sprayed again. Although the car now has 102,000 miles from new, the mechanical condition is superb. The engine has been rebuilt with new bearings and shells as well as cylinder head work over the years. On the road, it performs perfectly, the gearbox is smooth and quiet, with excellent synchromesh. At speed, the suspension and braking inspire confidence. This matching numbers E-type is a gem with a great history file and provenance. The private plate 66 EWU comes with the car. We fully expect it to find a new owner as quickly as it did last time.
