FOR SALE JF Classic Cars are pleased to offer a 1989 Mk2 Ford Fiesta 1.1 Ghia, finished in Ford Grey and showing remarkable preservation both inside and out. A rare opportunity to acquire a true survivor from the golden era of Ford’s small-car range along with being Family owned from new! DESCRIPTION When Ford unveiled the original Fiesta in 1976, it was their first modern front-wheel-drive supermini compact, economical, and agile. The Mk1 was an instant success, but by 1983 Ford introduced the Mk2, refining the winning formula with sharper styling, improved aerodynamics, and a more comfortable, better-equipped cabin. At the top of the range sat the Ghia, a name long associated with Ford’s most luxurious trim levels. While the base models were built for economy, the Ghia brought comfort and style to the small-car segment EXTERNAL Finished in Ford Grey paintwork which presents in very, very good glossy condition from nose to tail the finish is even, deep and reflective with a quality sheen that reads beautifully in any light. The lower panels present without fault and free from corrective repairs, presenting straight and true, there is no evidence of panel distortion or patchwork and the sills, wheel arches and bottoms of the doors remain solid and true. Panel gaps are razor sharp and consistent all round doors, bonnet and boot close with the positive, reassuring feel Ford intended. All external panels sit perfectly aligned and straight as factory-assembled, the shut lines neat and even which speaks to the care taken in preparation and ongoing maintenance. Original exterior trim has been preserved and is in excellent order. Front and rear bumpers are scuff-free and sit flush, chrome bright and without pitting. Unblemished lenses to both headlights and indicators. All lighting lenses and reflectors are crisp and free from fogging, chips and cracking. Window rubbers and seals remain supple, tarnish-free and correctly fitted, with the stainless/chrome screen surrounds displaying a bright, well-cared-for finish. All factory door locks and fittings are original and present, operating smoothly, the original door handles and locks retain their correct finish and show no signs of wear. Other external details are equally correct and authentic: original Ghia coachline and badges sit straight and true, wheel trims sit true with originality and the arches show a tidy, factory-accurate finish. Quite simply the external presentation of this Mk2 Fiesta Ghia is worthy of close inspection an honest, well-executed finish that complements the car’s survivor credentials and collector-grade appeal. Viewing is highly recommended! INTERIOR Stepping inside this Mk2 Fiesta Ghia is like taking a seat in a Ford showroom in 1989 the presentation is entirely original, entirely authentic, and in quite remarkable condition. Finished in the correct Olivia trim in the Shadow Grey colour scheme (code LE), the interior exudes that unmistakable late 1980s Ghia ambience with its refined yet understated styling. The cloth remains vibrant in colour and supple to the touch, with no fading previous repairs evident All vulnerable areas for wear, including the seat bases and side bolsters, are completely undamaged there’s none of the sagging, fraying, or compression often found in lesser examples. The rear seats appear scarcely used, their contours and fabric still fresh from decades of careful ownership. The original interior carpet is immaculate from front to rear, showing no wear even in the high-traffic areas by the pedals and door entries. It retains its factory weave and colour, sitting perfectly beneath the correct rubber heel mat. Above, the natural headlining remains taut, clean, and free of sagging a rare and telling sign of a car that has been cherished and stored with care. The switchgear is all functional and intact, with bright graphics that show no rubbing or fading, and every toggle, stalk, and button operates precisely as intended. The soft-finish dashboard is flawless no cracks, no lifting, and no sun damage, just the smooth surface Ford delivered when new. Still in place is the Ford stereo, a detail often lost over the years, sitting neatly in its correct aperture and operating as intended. To the rear, the parcel shelf is straight, undamaged a detail that underlines the untouched, unmodified nature of the car. From the smallest trim piece to the major soft furnishings, this cabin is a time capsule of originality. It is not simply clean it is spotless, and entirely representative of how a Mk2 Fiesta Ghia should look and feel when preserved to this standard. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION Nestled neatly in the engine bay is Ford’s time-proven transverse-mounted 1117cc OHV engine, breathing through its correct single-venturi carburettor. It produces a lively 50bhp at 5,000rpm and 83Nm of torque at 2,700rpm figures that, when paired with the Fiesta’s light weight and nimble chassis, deliver the sort of spirited, eager performance that makes you grin from the first turn of the key. While outright speed was never the Mk2 Fiesta Ghia’s mission, the throttle response is immediate and the revs build with a willing enthusiasm, accompanied by that unmistakable exhaust note that is pure late-’80s Ford. Around town it’s brisk and fuss-free, and out on country lanes it’s a delight, light, balanced, and full of character. The manual choke operates exactly as it should, and the original electronic ignition ensures dependable, easy starting. The four-speed synchromesh gearbox is wonderfully precise, with a light, short throw that encourages you to flick between gears just for the joy of it. Altogether, it’s a hugely nostalgic drive not just transport, but a reminder of when motoring was refreshingly simple, mechanical, and full of charm WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES The car sits proudly on its Factory original 13-inch steel wheels, each finished in factory silver and capped with the correct Ford wheel trims which are all in excellent condition, free from dents or kerb rash. Shod with 155/70/R13 tyre on each corner, each displays ample tread depth and even wear, ready to provide confident grip in all conditions. The spare wheel, also factory-correct, remains in equally fine order. Braking is by vacuum-assisted front discs paired with self-adjusting rear drums, giving a reassuring and progressive pedal feel. The system is in fine fettle, pulling the Fiesta up straight and true without drama. This combination, though modest by modern standards, is perfectly matched to the car’s light weight and lively handling, delivering both safety and period-correct driving character. The front suspension uses MacPherson struts with coil springs and an anti-roll bar, ensuring tight, predictable turn-in and a supple ride over uneven surfaces. At the rear, a simple but effective beam axle with trailing arms and coil springs keeps the car stable while maintaining its playful agility the hallmark of a small Ford from this era. The result is a driving experience that’s delightfully light on its feet, with wheels, tyres, brakes, and suspension all working in harmony to capture the charm and nimbleness that made the Mk2 Fiesta such a favourite when new HISTORY First registered on 26th October 1989, this Mk2 Ford Fiesta 1.1 Ghia was delivered brand new by the local Ford dealer to its first and only household owner, Mr Warren, who cherished the car from day one until 2012. At that point, ownership passed seamlessly within the same family to Mrs Warren, who has retained and cared for the vehicle ever since. This makes it a one-family-owned example from new and for the collector or Ford aficionado, it simply doesn’t get any better. Accompanying the car is a neatly organised history file, containing various consumables invoices alongside various historic MOT certificates, all helping to verify its remarkably low 18,738 miles. The paperwork paints a clear picture of diligent maintenance and preservation, with nothing overlooked and every effort made to keep the car in peak condition. This is a time-warp Fiesta, oozing originality from bumper to bumper an unrepeatable opportunity to own a slice of late-’80s Ford heritage in superior grade form. Whether you’re a Blue Oval purist hunting that missing piece for your garage, or a nostalgia-driven buyer wanting to relive the golden days of small, engaging Fords, this example will tick every box. One-family-owned. Ultra-low mileage. Completely original. Does it get any better? Examples like this rarely surface especially with such low mileage, originality, and minimal ownership making it not just a purchase, but an investment in a piece of Ford heritage that will be appreciated for years to come. Quite simply, a must for any true Ford aficionado. v5 Present & HPi Clear.
