BMW E30 - £25,000
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 29th May on Thursday the 29th of May. Background: The Alpina C1 2.3 was among the first true performance models developed by Alpina in collaboration with BMW – a precision-focused machine built on the already capable E21 323i. With 170bhp from a reworked 2316cc straight-six and hallmark Alpina handling upgrades, the C1 offered a distinctly motorsport-derived driving experience with genuine everyday usability. Built in very limited numbers and were available only through Sytner in the UK, who were (and still are) the official UK importers, the C1 2.3 is now a highly desirable collector’s item. Each car was individually numbered and adorned with Alpina-specific details – from the signature body stripes and alloys to the bespoke interiors, steering wheels, gear knobs, and instrument clusters. Few remain today in unrestored, original form. The Car: This rare Alpina C1, number 1277, was supplied new by Sytner Nottingham on 1st November 1984 and personally handled by noted Sytner's in-house Alpina specialist Gary Lott. It is a genuine, matching-numbers example, confirmed by Sytner, and remains in its original specification – a true survivor in Alpine White with factory-applied gold Alpina striping. Inside, the car features the correct Alpina dash plaque, original steering wheel, gear knob, and dials, with black seats trimmed in the characteristic Alpina green and blue motif. Also fitted are factory options including electric sunroof, electric windows and power steering– all of which remain in working order. Remarkably, this car is unrestored and retains its original finish and interior. It has had just seven former keepers and was dry-stored from 2001 by its most recent owner, who acquired it in 2000. Supporting documentation includes the leather owner’s wallet, handbook, and a collection of MOTs from 1994 to 2003, charting mileage from 62,000 to 104,000. Following a long period in storage, the car was carefully recommissioned in May 2024. Works included a full service, new fuel injectors, pump and filter, overhaul of the braking system, replacement suspension arms, anti-roll bar links, rear lollipop bushes and housings, as well as a set of new Toyo Proxes tyres. A Scorpion exhaust and downpipe, fitted in 1997, remains in place and adds to the car’s period charm and note. Eligible for historic status and registration benefits, this C1 is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a truly original piece of Alpina and BMW history. It remains unmodified, correct in every detail, and ready to be used or further preserved by its next custodian. A rare chance to acquire an unspoiled, matching-numbers Alpina icon – supplied new by Sytner and offered today with traceable history, correct components, and significant recommissioning just completed. Please see the gallery for full details, including underbody images, documents, and close-ups of Alpina-specific features. Location: Cheshire Seller: Trade Photos: Vendor supplied
