The sensational unveiling of the first XK120 at the 1948 London Motor Show was the start of an incredible era of success for the Jaguar marque with the arrival of the XK120 which was the fastest factory built car in the world at its inception, powered by Jaguars powerful new dual overhead camshaft inline 6 cylinder engine along with its voluptuous lines the XK120 drew overwhelming public approval much to the surprise of Jaguars boss and XK designer Sir William Lyons the vehicles unveiling was initially intended to be only as a show car and styling exhibit to promote Jaguars new DOHC engine with an expectation that it may produce a limited production run at best, as they say the rest is history with the XK line going on to make Jaguars reputation as an innovator in design and engineering of some of the finest and most sought after cars in the world with the XK and its C type racing variant going on to become highly successful on and off the race track.
