1964 Jaguar D-Type - Mike Hawthorn’s Le Mans Winning “Tribute” version. Registration:- 580 FUF. Date:- 16-04-1964. Vin/Chassis:-1B1077DN. Engine No:-7B1119-8. Jaguar D-Type’s, in their “original” form, of which only 71, were ever manufactured, supposedly totalled 18, “factory/works” sports cars and 53, “customer/privateers” cars, and therefore, are incredibly scarce, so, when they ever come to market, they tend to fetch enormous sums of money! Not surprising really, as they amazingly managed to repeat the feat, of the “Bentley Boy’s” in the late 1920’s, by winning the Arduous Le Mans 24 Hour Sports Car Race, in the mid 1950’s-three times in succession-(1955-1957). Ferrari, of course, were then truly formidable, until again another “British Manufacturer”, namely “Ford” won four times in succession in the mid/late 1960’s-(1966-1969), of which one model, from each of these manufacturer’s, resides in our collection too! -the “GT40” being in the famous “Gulf-Oil” livery. As so often happens, with very rare factory/works racing/sports cars, they are usually the subject of numerous re-productions, quite often, nowadays, commissioned by the original owners themselves and are often made by “specialist engineering companies”. As such, one particular highly respected company, namely the “world renowned” and widely acclaimed, “Realm Engineering”, “helmed”, by the very well-known “Adrian Reynard,” of “Indy-Car” fame and famously described by both the “Sir’s” Stirling Moss and Jack Brabham, authoritatively, as”one of the most desirable re-production’s, that we’ve both ever had the privilege, of laying our hands on, being as good, or even better, handling, than the “originals”, that we both used to race”-and now, quite often mistaken for such! 580 FUF, of collectable interest, complete with it’s “date-related” number plate and supplied with it’s current V5C registration document, which confirms the ”historical status”, and also comes with a very comprehensive history file.
