1958 VOLKSWAGEN TYPE 2 23 WINDOW SPLIT SCREEN - £84,995

Hexagon Classics are delighted to offer this truly iconic and beautifully restored VW Type 2 23-window Samba; a cultural icon from the golden age of motoring and the most desirable of the classic VW bus range. Finished in the timeless Orange over Cream colour scheme, this left-hand-drive example exudes 1950s charm with its two-tone finish and full-length folding sunroof. Known affectionately as the “Samba,” this top-of-the-line model features 23 factory windows, including the signature eight skylights and split front screen, along with the iconic "barn door" side entrance. Originally introduced for alpine touring, the 23-window Samba has become a favourite among collectors and enthusiasts alike. SPECIFICATION INCUDES :- 1600 cc ENGINE, BLAUPUNKT CLASSIC RADIO WITH I PHONE CONNECTION, FULL-LENGTH FOLDING SUNROOF, SEALED BEAM HEADLIGHTS, RED TAIL LIGHTS, ROOF RACK. TRACKER AND IMMOBILISER ALSO FITTED. This example has been subject to a meticulous restoration by Dutch marque specialists Kieft en Klok at a cost of more than £130,000 with a keen focus on preserving original details while enhancing drivability. The cream vinyl interior has been retrimmed to a high standard, providing both comfort and period-correct aesthetics. A 1600cc engine was then fitted by the VW Engine Co, Keston, to provide additional torque and power. The first generation of the Volkswagen Type 2 with the split windshield, informally called the Microbus, Splitscreen, or “Splittie” among modern fans, was produced from May1950 through to the end of the 1967 model year when the German T1 production line stopped. Unlike other rear-engined Volkswagens, which evolved constantly over time but never saw the introduction of all-new models, the Transporter not only evolved, but was completely revised periodically. The Microbus became a huge sales hit worldwide, and events such as the US music festival Woodstock, which was held in the summer of 1969, saw plenty of brightly-painted hippie vans transporting excited young crowds. Supplied new in Kassel,April 1958, before export to California, the Type 2 was imported to the UK in 2005 and registered in the UK in 2014 after restoration. It is supplied with history file, restoration invoices, VW build certificate and driver’s handbook.
