The TR5 is not just a masterpiece of design; it was mechanically ahead of it's time. Triumph, the manufacturer, replaced their previous 105 bhp (78 kW) engine with a groundbreaking Lucas mechanical fuel-injected 150 bhp (110 kW) 2.5-litre straight-6 engine.
