Designed by Giovanni Micheloti, famed for the creation of many Italian exotics such as Ferrari and Maserati. The styling of the car was met with great reviews. Triumph decided to revisit the GT4 idea and in replacing the under-powered Spitfire 4 engine with the more powerful Triumph Vitesse two-litre, six-cylinder engine, the GT6 was born and production of the Mk. I GT6 commenced in July 1966. During the course of the next four years the GT6 received a number of styling changes and mechanical developments, dramatically improving the handling and in October 1970 the GT6 Mk. III was introduced with a total of 13,042 units being built before the end of production in December 1973.

This delightful Mk. III example is possibly the finest we have seen. Originally registered in March 1972 this GT6 was purchased by the previous owner in 1977 and used as his daily driver until 1984 when it started to require attention. The car was placed in his garage and stayed there for the next 37 years!! Upon his retirement it was decided to bring the car back to its former glory. This fantastic Triumph has benefitted from a no expense spared, nut and bolt restoration that cost an astounding £56,000. This GT6 now presents better than new in gleaming red coachwork with a contrasting black interior. An extremely high standard has been maintained throughout the works undertaken by restoration expert Justin Simmons of Maidenhead. Works which included an engine rebuild, a refurbished gearbox and new clutch, a complete new brake system, an all new exhaust system and an overhaul of the suspension system. The chassis received a complete refurbishment including powder coating. All of the chromework was either replaced or re-chromed, the wheels were refurbished, and all the rubber seals replaced. The works were completed over a 3 year period and the owner completed 1000 miles before an unexpected illness and unfortunately passing away in 2021. Now owned and offered for sale by a family friend we are convinced that this Triumph will hold its own under any scrutiny and will make a perfect addition to any collection.
