DE TOMASO PANTERA REVIEW

It may sound like a type of ketchup, but the De Tomaso Pantera  is far spicier than any old Heinz sauce...

With fantastic lines penned by Tom Tjaarda in his days with Carozzeria Ghia, the De Tomaso Pantera certainly had classic supercar looks. A 5.8-litre Ford V8 gave it performance to match, though in true Italian style, it was more than capable of stinging any driver who didn’t pay it enough respect. Production numbers are an unknown quantity, but it’s thought that around 9000 were produced between 1971 and 1990, around 90 per cent of which found their way ‘across the pond’ to America. They’re far from common today, but if you can find one, they make a truly satisfying, if also somewhat brutal choice.

If you’re looking for something a bit different to the equivalent Ferraris and Lamborghinis of the same era, then a Pantera will certainly make you stand out from the crowd. Muscular V8 power means you’ll leave the masses trailing in your wake too; find a good one and you won’t look back.
