This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 8th May on Thursday the 8th of May. Background: The Renault Mégane 230 F1 is based on the recently facelifted Mégane and benefits from the more hardcore 'Cup Chassis', but with new rear dampers. In addition to the standard Cup, it comes with £1,450 worth of extra equipment. You get gloss black wheels and wing mirrors, plus luxuries such as climate-control, cruise-control and a more potent sound system. However, the most important addition is the Recaro seats. Press releases at the time claimed that the F1 Mégane 'provides the thrill of driving on the road that the R26 does on the track'. While not quite at the same level as the R26, it remains a far more serious rival to the Golf GTi and Focus ST than ever before. The Car: This particular car is a remarkable example of the marque. In stunning condition throughout, it has been fastidiously maintained by the current owner, with a full recommissioning carried out just 5,000 miles ago. This consisted of new brake discs and pads all round, new rear suspension and springs, engine and gearbox oils changed, a new passenger window regulator, a new rear Scorpion exhaust and recent fitment of white light headlight and sidelight bulbs. In 2022, famed Renaultsport specialist SRS undertook the significant challenge of replacing the timing belt just 8,000 miles ago — a job that is no small matter on these cars. The car remains largely standard, with only the R26 spoiler, exhaust and engine cover being changed. The car rides and drives like new. There are no knocks or rattles from the suspension over any surface, while the gearbox is smooth, fast and makes shifting through the gears a joy for any driver. The paintwork is in perfect condition, with not a blemish to be found anywhere on the car. To top it off, the current owner has had additional PPF (paint protection film) applied — a feature not fitted from the factory. It is believed that the car has never been tracked and its outstanding condition strongly supports that claim. This would make the perfect hot-hatch for the modern collector.
