PORSCHE 911/930 3.0 TURBO - £180,000

The 911 Turbo, introduced in 1975 would remain in production until 1989, and was sufficiently different from previous versions to earn a new 930 model number. These were proper 'Supercars', amongst the fastest production cars available at the time, and are now felt by many to be the cars that defined the early eighties. Developed initially for homologation purposes, the turbocharged 911 was first seen at the 1973 Paris Auto Show as a pre-production prototype, essentially to gauge reaction and went on sale a couple of years later as the 911(930) Turbo. The basic engine underpinnings came from the Carrera 2.7 RS with the capacity increased to 3.0 litres and of course, turbocharged using the vast amount of recent experience with forced air induction that Porsche had gained from their 917/30 Can-Am programme. Externally distinctive with its 'whale tail' rear spoiler, wide tyres, bulging wheel arches and macho stance, 930s were surprisingly civilised with air conditioning, electric windows, a leather interior (in some), tinted glass, headlamp washers and Bilstein shock absorbers as standard.

This rare and lovingly restored 930 Turbo is presented in Guards Red and has retained in its original tartan cloth interior and black leather bolters having been supplied originally by main dealer Malaya in Billingshurst. The current owner was conscious to retain as much of its originality as possible, therefore, even the radio is original and working. The present owner has lovingly restored this rare and iconic Porsche with no expense spared, retaining all its original panels. It has had a complete engine and gearbox rebuild by Porsche, the front and rear suspension have all been reconditioned or replaced for new. Front and rear arms have all been powder coated, new fuel tank fitted, wheels refurbished and fitted with new Pirelli tyres and all parts used where genuine Porsche parts. The only non-original part is the stainless-steel exhaust as this was preferred over the standard Porsche exhaust as the stainless steel will last longer. There are invoices from Porsche totalling £80,000 for all the work carried out. The car will come with a year's warranty from Porsche on the engine and gearbox. While the car was stripped, it had a full bare metal respray to include the complete underside, engine bay and front luggage compartment, carried out by Canada Coachworks West Byfleet. There is a documented history going back to the late 1970s and it comes with its original book pack, wallet and a stamped service book, Porsche Certificate of production and a new MoT test certificate. It has had five previous owners which is documented with copies of previous V5s and there are also photographs of the restoration. This is an extremely rare Porsche Turbo, the best one in our book, and having been restored by our current owner to the level you see today is surely a great investment (the underside is as good as it is on top!) Iconic, headturning and with terrific performance. Consigned by James Good
