The sixth generation of the Porsche 911 was dubbed the 997 and introduced in 2005. It retained the previous model's basic profile but drew on the 993 for detailing. In addition, the new headlights reverted to the original bug-eye design. The interior was similarly revised, with strong links to the earlier 911 interiors while at the same time looking fresh and modern. Initially, two versions of the 997 were introduced, the rear-wheel-drive Carrera and Carrera S. In late 2005, Porsche introduced the four-wheel drive versions of the 997, the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4 S which were announced as 2006 models. The 997 remains a worthy model of one of the most celebrated sportscars ever produced and also received a vast amount of positive reviews from the worldwide motoring press, with Jeremy Clarkson, a known detractor of Porsche cars, noting that the 997 will "make love to your fingertips and stir your soul”.

First registered on 11th July 2007, this black on black, two former keeper example has the desirable six-speed manual gearbox and sunroof. A 3.8 litre Carrera 2 S specification car, it is very much the enthusiasts combination as a real drivers example sitting on lobster claw alloys and matching OEM specification Bridgestone Potenza tyres. A very clean and comprehensively maintained example with six service stamps until 2016 at 109,155 miles at which point the clutch and brakes were replaced. Purchased in early 2017, shortly after taking ownership of his dream 911 disaster struck, a noise in the engine was diagnosed as an IMF bearing failure. Our vendor decided rather than sell the car requiring work he would 'bite the bullet' and pay for the full engine rebuild.

The engine was stripped and ready to be worked on when COVID hit and everything was put on pause. The car remained garaged until 2022 after which a search found Classic and Modern Engine Services in Bracknell to fully rebuild the engine and West End Farm Garage to recommission/service the car. The engine work by Classic and Modern Engine Services is detailed by a job sheet showing the full rebuild costing £11,274 before heading to West End Farm Garage for a recommission which included, air conditioning condensers, new cam shaft sensor, new starter motor, fuel pump, rear tyres and shocks, brake lines and a service amongst other work with the vendor having spent near £20,000 in total by this point.

Since its return the car has visited RSR for a running in service, handbrake shoes and air conditioning re-gas, a new battery was fitted last year and the car has been used sparingly as always intended. Having spent a significant sum on this example our vendor who must paraphrase 'scratched the itch' is now looking to find a new owner for the car who will benefit from the confidence of the engine rebuild that so many 996 and Gen I 997 require.

The perfect colour combination with a manual gearbox, sunroof and a full engine rebuild with running in service, this 997 offers extra confidence that others cannot. On what is one of the more desirable specification 997/911's you can buy, our vendor has sadly taken the 'hit', but it does mean that any buyer can capitalise on having all the common issues addressed and enjoy one of the best drivers 911's.
