NORTON DOMIRACER - £2,500
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Motorcycle Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Sunday the 9th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. In 1960, Norton's race shop developed a high-performance version of their Dominator twin-cylinder motorcycle, officially known as the "Domiracer". Chief Engineer, Doug Hele, fine-tuned the 500cc parallel-twin to produce 55bhp at 8,000 rpm and the race bike was also significantly lighter—16 kg less than its Manx single-cylinder sibling Replicating the factory race bikes, many 'Domiracers' were built privately using the widely available 'featherbed frame' and were renowned for their superb handling and cool 'cafe racer' style This example was based on a 1960 Model 50 'wide-line' featherbed frame fitted with a 1960 500cc twin from a Dominator 88 Although road registered in 1976, this bike's frame and engine both date from 1960 with clearly visible manufacturer's numbers, so it would be a straightforward process to re-register the bike on a correct 1960, age-related registration number The bike has been off of the road for a number of years but, according to our vendor, is in running condition and could be returned to the road after the usual checks and some light recommissioning A handsome machine that oozes 1960s charm and is supplied with a current V5C, old style V5, some old MOTs a spare tank, seat, handlebars and yoke, and a spare carb
