The Norton 16H is one of the most enduring models in Norton’s long history, renowned for its reliability, simplicity and rugged performance. Originally introduced in the 1920s and produced in large numbers for the military during the Second World War, the 16H continued in civilian production into the early 1950s. Powered by a 490cc side-valve single producing around 14bhp, the model delivered steady, tractable power through a 4-speed gearbox, qualities that made it a dependable choice for both military and post-war riders alike By 1949, the model benefited from the introduction of Norton’s new Roadholder front forks, greatly improving ride quality and handling over the earlier girder-equipped machines. This bike has been owned and enjoyed by its enthusiastic owner since 1999, so the bike has been in the vendors collection for some 26 years. Registered on the 15/03/1949 to Clarks of Oxford Ltd and then purchased by a William Sirman of Little Tew, Oxfordshire. It has only had four owners in its life, and is mostly original and appears unrestored. The engine was re-sleeved, with a new piston around 12 years ago Extensively toured (mostly in mid Wales) by our vendor who finds it a little heavy these days - he describes it as an easy starting and well running bike. Though MOT-exempt, he still kept it MOT'd and the most recent one expired in November 2023. During his ownership, the engine oil has been changed every 500 miles with Morris SAE30 The history file contains the current V5C, old logbooks (including the original 'buff' logbook), old MOTs, Tax Discs, invoices, and a photocopy of the Maintenance and Instruction book Also supplied with a toolbox with tools, a larger bag with tools and a fire extinguisher A valuable transferable registration number A venerable 16H with a patina reflecting the vendors use and enjoyment of the bike over the years
