1962 MORRIS MINOR TRAVLELLER - £15,950
The iconic Morris Minor was in production for 23 years from 1948 until 1972, with 1.6 million sold. This famous and most British of family cars was the brainchild of Sir Alec Issigonis and available in 2 and 4-door saloon variants, a 2-door convertible, the Traveller estate car and commercial panel van and pick-up versions. The Traveller first appeared in 1953 and was available in 2 of the 3 series of Minors made. It features an external structural ash (wood) frame for the rear bodywork, with two side-hinged rear doors. Initially powered by a 948 cc A-series engine, this was enlarged to 1098 cc in 1962 - providing a modest 48 bhp – and the model was rebranded the ‘Minor 1000’. The Traveller remained popular until the end of Minor production, the last one being built in April 1971. The car offered here was first registered in May 1962, making it a late Series III vehicle employing the 948cc power unit. We have no further history in respect of the vehicle until the 21st century, when we know its then owner undertook a substantial renovation programme over a number of years commencing in 2010. This covered all aspects – bodywork and wood frame; paintwork; brightwork; engine and mechanical renovation; interior re-upholstered and new carpets. A professional valuation carried out in 2015 referred to the car as being “… in show winning condition”. The Traveller then changed hands, moving to Wales in 2016 and was subsequently purchased by a Guernsey resident in 2021. It has had limited use since but has been kept garaged and fully maintained. Last serviced in March 2025, the Minor starts, runs and drives well. An alternator has been fitted, as has a stainless exhaust and the most recent service work included refurbishment of the brakes. The major restoration work carried out indicates a total spend of some £ 25,000 and this is well reflected in the quality of the Traveller’s bodywork. A strip to bare metal (including the engine bay) and panelwork replacement as required, together with a full repaint (including the wheels); fitment of a new wood frame and fresh brightwork. The car remains in excellent condition and looks very smart in its original Almond Green. All seating and the interior of the car have been fully re-upholstered and new carpet fitted throughout. The simple dashboard is complete and fully functioning. Everything is in a first-rate condition. The Minor Traveller provides a real trip down memory lane for those who remember them being such a common sight on British roads. We offer here a truly smart and practical example, wholly ready to take on daily duties should a new owner so wish. The car comes with a history file from 2008 onwards and MOT records held confirm the mileage from 2006 up to 2019, since which time it has only covered around a further 1,000 miles. The car is currently registered and located in Guernsey. We can assist with shipping and importation processes if required and can ship worldwide.
