This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Saturday the 8th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. A much admired model within the Morgan line-up, the Plus 8 combined the marque’s traditional lightweight coachbuilt construction with the power and torque of Rover’s all alloy V8, delivering one of the most charismatic British sports cars of its era. This example, believed to have been first registered in the early 1980s, is a particularly attractive car that has been in the careful ownership of its second keeper for an extraordinary 38 years and has covered just 17,796 miles from new. Finished in classic Ivory with a complementary beige leather interior, this Plus 8 presents with an appealing period charm. Under the bonnet sits the naturally aspirated 3.5-litre Rover V8 producing around 155bhp, driving the rear wheels through a slick 5-speed manual gearbox, offering the traditional blend of performance, flexibility and open-air enjoyment that the Plus 8 is renowned for. It rides on 15" alloy wheels shod with Pirelli Cinturato P6 tyres, with the matching boot-mounted spare also wearing a Pirelli tyre. The specification includes Smiths instruments, a 3-spoke steering wheel, passenger grab handle, adjustable rake windscreen, leather bonnet strap, fog lights, chrome mirror housings and rear-mounted spare with luggage rack. The car has clearly been cherished, with the vendor noting that it was stored in an insulated building during their long-term ownership. There are some stone chips and minor scuffs to the exterior consistent with age, and the interior shows light wear and some discolouration appropriate for its mileage, but overall it remains a very well preserved and honest example. The most recent MOT was conducted on 11 July 2023 at 17,791 miles, resulting in a first time pass with no advisories, demonstrating its roadworthiness at that time. Its last documented service was carried out in July 2018 at 17,575 miles by Harwoods Ltd, including an engine oil and filter change and a strip and service of the brakes. The carburettors were rebuilt in 2025 by Harwoods Ltd, and the car runs very well. The vendor advises that the car benefited from regular MOT tests and health checks throughout their ownership, and its online MOT record supports the fact that it has been consistently maintained. Accompanying the Morgan are some maintenance invoices, the owner’s handbook, toolkit and an online record of work completed since 2014. Lightly used, carefully stored and offered from exceptionally long term ownership, this low-mileage Morgan Plus 8 is an attractive example of the model. Given the time elapsed since its last service, it would now benefit from a routine inspection and recommissioning. Once done, it will no doubt make a desirable addition to any classic car collection as well as a highly engaging and characterful weekend companion.
