1968 MGB ROADSTER - £22,995
This car truly feels like the return of an old friend. We sold this wonderful fully rebuilt, subtly upgraded MGB Roadster in August 2014 to a new customer who, along with his wife became great friends of the business. They attended our 25th anniversary event in 2016, attended an event we hosted in Scotland, regularly visited our showroom in the car and became fantastic customers of our service facility Malton Coachworks as they took this MGB to the next level in terms of condition. Sadly our customer passed away in 2022 and the car was handed to his son who wanted to keep hold of this late father’s pride and joy. Several years on, the MGB sadly isn’t being used, so we were the first call to handle finding a new home for this truly special car. This is a car with all the right headlines, a U.K. home market RHD car, finished in its original colours, fully rebuilt to an exceptional standard, regular touring since, and equipped with some fantastic upgrades. Further to that, a car with great history and low ownership, it’s one of those cars that ticks all of the boxes .BUP 777G, a genuine RHD home market car was built between the 31st May and 4th June 1968. The MG was supplied new in British Racing Green with Black trim and despatched to Byers Garages Ltd, Sunderland on the 6th June 1968. The MG was issued with a Durham registration, BUP 777G. This is a low ownership car that has spent the majority of its time in the North of England and in 2006 it was sold requiring full restoration. This owner kept the car until he came to us in 2014. Between 2006 and 2008 the MG was subject of a major rebuild carried out to an exceptionally high standard. A total nut and bolt restoration was undertaken and a brand new Heritage Shell purchased. The bodyshell today is outstanding and the underside painted British Racing Green with a light coating of waxoyl for protection. New wire wheels were fitted and a brand new interior fitted. The interior was treated to bespoke leather seats, walnut dash, cream dials, new carpets, door cards and MG over mats. A mohair hood was fitted and the exterior finished with brand new chrome. Mechanically the MG is outstanding and benefits from a fully rebuilt engine with unleaded cylinder head. The crankshaft was machined and new pistons, main and big end bearings were fitted, as were replacement thrust washers, a new oil pump and timing chain. The MG was treated to new front and rear shock absorbers, track rod ends, link arms, anti-roll bar, rear leaf springs, re-conditioned king pin assemblies, polyurethane bushes, drilled brake discs with ‘green stuff' pads, hi-torque motor, stainless steel exhaust system, Halogen headlights, Kenlowe fan, new wiring loom and all other items either re-conditioned or replaced. Various parts were shot blasted and powder coated for a top class finish and a Toad alarm with immobiliser and central locking fitted. The MG has now covered 7500 miles since the restoration, 6000 of those miles since we sold the car in 2014. Over this period over £9000 has been spent ensuring the car is totally first class in every respect. Both cosmetically and mechanically the MG has been meticulously maintained in order to be taken to shows events with absolute pride. Having only covered 7500 miles since rebuild, the running gear is in excellent order and the engine performs superbly with excellent oil pressure. The MG has a very sporty, fast road feel and the gearbox is super smooth with a fully functioning overdrive. The MG has a great road holding with a perfectly set up suspension, precise steering and sharp, efficient brakes. This MG is an outstanding example that presents beautifully. The underneath and inner arches still looks brand new and the general body, paintwork and engine bay are just simply superb. This is a perfectly useable MG that has covered minimal mileage since a very expensive restoration. BUP 777G comes with a comprehensive restoration history including photo record, Heritage Certificate and some pre-restoration correspondence from the 1980's.
