This car rolled out of the MG factory at Abingdon in December 1955, when HM The Queen was in the 3rd year of her reign and Sir Winston Churchill was still a member of parliament! First Registered at Exeter on 22 Feb 1956, when petrol cost 4p per litre, it remained in the same family for the next 45 years. My father purchased it in the autumn of 2009 and was given every scrap of providential documentation generated throughout its life. Much of the car is in its original condition, particularly the interior, as are most of its chrome bits. Its restoration has been limited to essential work only. The bodywork, however, had some serious ‘fettling’ in 1991 to insure the car’s survival. After much deliberation, due to ongoing challenges with its existing propulsion, in 2012, it was fitted with a replacement MGA 1500 engine. It has been regularly used for classic car drives and rallies – it has been to Jersey, Guernsey and Goodwood, and has taken part in many celebratory events including the Jubilee and Coronation runs. It had it’s moment of fame as a Police Car in the ITV Drama ‘The Hunt for Tony Blair’ and has been much admired during current ownership.
