The vehicle was built in 2010 by Will Maskell, who at the time was a mechanic at the MGOC workshop in Swavesey, Cambridgeshire. He started with a 1972 chrome bumper car, completely stripped it and remedied any rust issues, then rebuilt it with a Cosworth V6 engine, RV8 back axle etc etc. Full details are contained in an article that appeared in the MGOC Enjoying MG magazine in January 2011 (reproduced below). The vehicle was sold by Will in 2011 to a member of my car club, and I purchased it from them in November 2020. The odometer currently shows under 004000 miles but this is largely academic. Will Maskell advised me that he had no paperwork for the Cosworth engine but that he had been informed that it had covered around 60,000 miles prior to installation. I have no record of how many miles Will covered before selling the vehicle; my club member covered only around 4,300 miles in his 9 years of ownership and I have covered around 8,700 miles. Will’s view is that the engine should be good for around 200,000 miles if properly looked after. Work carried out since November 2020 (in addition to regular engine oil and filter changes), new starter motor, fuel tank fully refurbished, new track rod ends, replacement steering rack, new ignition lead set, new exhaust oxygen sensors, new front shock absorbers (lever arm; standard spec.), new Gaz adjustable shock absorbers at rear, new ignition switch, new clutch + flywheel skimmed, new indicator switch, new silicon coolant hoses (coolant changed to “4 Life”), new fuel pump and fuel filter, replacement ECU, new alternator belt, new plugs, new rocker cover gaskets, new brake light switch, new coil pack. The vehicle has covered minimal mileage in the past 18 months. It sits on Michelin Primacy tyres, fitted fewer than 8,000 miles ago. The full-size spare wheel is fitted with an unused Yokohama tyre. The agreed valuation with my insurer is £25,000.
