MERCEDES 230 COUPE - £5,000
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 26th June on Thursday the 26th of June. Background: The W123 Mercedes-Benz series was introduced in 1975 and was a success from the outset. With first year production limited, cars began changing hands on the secondary market for several thousand Deutschmarks over the list price. One of Mercedes-Benz's most recognisable and well loved designs, the W123 (and the C123 coupé derivative seen here, which was introduced in 1977) soon developed a reputation for bulletproof reliability – arguably one of the most solidly engineered cars ever made. This means that even today, the W123 series remains a fantastic classic car purchase. In the spring of 1977, a coupé version was introduced, featuring a shortened wheelbase compared to the saloon. The C123 was available as the 230C (later 230CE) and the 280C and 280CE in most markets. Unlike the W123 saloon, the rectangular headlamps were fitted to all C123 models, regardless of engine type. The Car: This C123 is equipped with the 2.3-litre inline six-cylinder engine, paired with an automatic transmission. Both engine and gearbox are described as being in 'good' condition. The vendor reports it has a partial service history and has been fairly well maintained. As a 1978 car, it is now MOT-exempt. The vehicle has been off the road since the early 2000s, having covered only 2,000 miles in the last 20 years. It has been dry stored by its current owner, regularly started and kept on charge. The interior, as shown in the photographs, appears to be in good condition, with no visible rips or marks on the seats. The dashboard also seems to be free of major faults. The car is running and driving but would benefit from a thorough inspection before being put into regular use. In summary, this is a wonderful opportunity to own a rare, well specified and desirable 1970s Mercedes-Benz. Location: LeicesterPhotos: ProfessionalSeller: Private
