The Mercedes-Benz R129 SL500 is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished grand tourers of its era. Combining V8 performance with superb build quality, refinement and cutting-edge safety technology, the R129 remains a true modern classic.

Powered by the 5.0 litre quad-cam V8, producing around 322bhp, this SL500 is equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission, ABS, traction control, and the innovative automatic rollover protection system. First registered on 26th February 1996, this example is attractively finished in silver with a contrasting grey leather upholstery and light burr walnut trim. The original owner specified desirable factory options including a factory hardtop, 18-inch AMG alloy wheels (recently refurbished and fitted with new tyres), and massage function seats. The car has remained in the same family for most of its life, with four family members listed as owners and two who kept the vehicle for over 23 years.

Following a full vehicle health check, the car underwent a service costing more than £2,000, the major works undertaken included full transmission service, differential oil, brake fluid change, new front discs and pads, brake pipes checked and protected, new front coil springs and the fuel cap replaced. The vendor also decided to have a few bodywork areas rectified which include the front and rear bumpers being resprayed due to minor cracks and ageing, the underside was then treated to a full Lano guard treatment for preservation. All the electronics are reported to function correctly, and the car features an upgraded audio system but comes with its original Mercedes-Benz head unit. The vendor states the car drives very well and will be driven to the auction.

This example is offered with its desirable hardtop, two original keys and original electronic key card, original book pack, service records including booklet, numerous bills and receipts for the maintenance, and it will be supplied with a MoT test certificate valid until June 2026. The vendor informs us the private registration will remain on the vehicle. This wonderful modern classic is well specified and in good condition, ideal for classic summer motoring with a few modern creature comforts such as air conditioning and electric heated seats.
