This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Motorcycle Sale at Shuttleworth - Summer 2025 on Sunday the 20th of July, Shuttleworth, Old Warden Park, Beds, SG18 9EP . The Matchless G9 was launched at the Earls Court motorcycle show in 1948 along with the corresponding AJS Model 20 The design altered little over the years with the biggest change being the Burman gearbox in 1952. Production ceased in 1961 This 1954 example benefitted from a mechanical rebuild about 5,000 miles ago and presents well but would obviously benefit from further work if the show field is your intention Classically finished in maroon and chrome and fitted with a black and maroon handlebar fairing The bike is also fitted with some lovely bespoke wooden panniers and top box, and is set up to take a sidecar Supplied with the bike is a Watsonian Avon 'sports' chair which appears to have been mostly restored, and a varnished wooden cargo box with frame work and tonneau cover The bike has been in storage for some time so some recommissioning may be required Supplied with a current V5, the original 1954 'buff' log book, and an MOT Exemption Certificate Classic fifties Matchless, that with further restoration and the Watsonian refinished in a complementing colour, would be welcome anywhere
