1967 LANCIA FULVIA PHASE-1 1967 1.2 COUPE RHD SARATOGA WHITE - £23,995
FOR SALE JF Classic Cars present an exceptionally rare, timewarp example of a 1967 Lancia Fulvia Phase 1 Coupe, beautifully finished in elegant Saratoga White DESCRIPTION The Lancia Fulvia Coupe, introduced in 1965, quickly established itself as one of Italy’s most finely engineered compact sporting cars. Designed by Piero Castagnero, its crisp lines and jewel-like detailing made it an instant classic, while its narrow-angle V4 engine, front-wheel drive chassis, and sophisticated suspension delivered handling far ahead of its time. The Phase 1 Fulvia Coupe was produced from 1965 until 1969, after which the updated Phase 2 cars were introduced. During its Phase 1 production run, approximately 20,000 examples of the Coupe were built, making early cars like this one highly sought after by collectors for their purity of design and engineering detail. This 1967 example, presented in Saratoga White, represents one of the earliest and most original versions of this iconic model. EXTERNAL This Fulvia presents as a remarkably well-preserved early example, its elegant coupe body finished in Lancia Saratoga White paintwork that retains a deep, consistent gloss. The car’s compact proportions are enhanced by the clean, straight body lines which flow effortlessly from the sharply styled front end to the short, purposeful rear. The panel fit and alignment remain very good throughout, with the kind of straight lines and consistency that can only come from a car that has clearly been cherished throughout its life. All chrome fittings including the bumpers, delicate window surrounds, door handles and period-correct badging present bright and free from tarnish, catching the light just as they did when the car left the factory. Rubber seals around the glazing, lights and trim remain supple and well-fitting, without the usual signs of perishing so commonly seen on unrestored cars of this age. The Fulvia’s front grille and quad headlamp arrangement remain iconic, with the thin slatted grille and inset Lancia shield sitting proudly at the front. Original Carello headlamps are chip and crack-free, flanked by factory-correct corner sidelights and indicators, all of which present as unmarked and fully functional. To the rear, the original lenses remain in place and free from cracks or fading, ensuring the car retains its authentic period appearance. Factory glazing throughout is clear, Completing the exterior are period-correct steel wheels and polished hubcaps, presenting exactly as intended, underscoring the car’s authentic timewarp character INTERIOR Open the door and you are greeted by a wonderfully period-correct yet beautifully preserved interior that speaks volumes about the care this Fulvia has enjoyed throughout its life. The seats finished in unmarked dark blue cloth remain in superb order both front and rear, with excellent support and no visible signs of wear, sagging, or fading. Matching dark blue carpets front and rear present in the very best of condition, their colour still deep and unfaded, clearly benefiting from years of careful ownership and light use. The wood-trimmed steering wheel and dashboard fascia add a touch of understated Italian elegance, both in fine condition. Manually operated windows work exactly as intended, while push-out rear quarter lights provide additional ventilation a charming detail of the period. The dashboard houses a set of clear, fully operational Veglia Borletti dials, including the speedometer which currently displays 49,595 km, flanked by a analogue dashboard clock. Original switchgear remains in place and functional, and even the Voxson Junior radio remains fitted, a rare survival that adds greatly to the car’s authentic cabin atmosphere. Everything about this interior feels correct, It is a true time capsule of late-1960s Italian coupe design. Basic in its original layout yet entirely functional, the cabin offers a refreshingly pure driving environment subtly preserved over time to ensure longevity without detracting from its unmistakable period character ENGINE & TRANSMISSION Beneath the elegant bonnet lies Lancia’s 1.2-litre narrow-angle V4 petrol engine, a configuration that was at the time both innovative and compact, designed to allow a low bonnet line and precise weight distribution. Featuring a single overhead camshaft per bank and twin carburettors, this engine delivers lively performance combined with remarkable smoothness for a car of its era. Firing eagerly at the turn of the key, the 1.2 V4 settles into a steady idle and rewards the driver with a flexible powerband and a smooth, progressive take-up of power. While modest on paper, the lightweight construction of the Fulvia ensures that it keeps pace comfortably with modern-day town and city traffic without effort. Mated to a precise four-speed manual gearbox, the engine delivers a wonderfully connected driving experience. The gearbox offers a positive, mechanical feel through the gate, making each gear change a pleasure, while ratios are well spaced to make the most of the engine’s lively character. On the open road, the Fulvia comes into its own, proving to be an ideal cruiser for B-roads and sweeping country lanes, where its rev-happy V4 and responsive gearbox combine to create a uniquely enjoyable drive one of the reasons these cars have such a devoted following among enthusiasts today. WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES The car sits proudly on its original 14-inch steel wheels, each presented in unmarked condition and adorned with polished chrome hub embellishers that remain bright and free from pitting or tarnish. These wheels are shod with a matching set of Pirelli Cinturato P1 tyres on all four corners, each tyre displaying virtually as-new tread depth and even wear perfectly suited to the light, responsive chassis of the Fulvia. Braking is handled by the sophisticated four-wheel disc brake system that was advanced for its day, providing excellent stopping power and stability. The front discs are mounted inboard to reduce unsprung weight and improve handling response, while the rear discs are mounted conventionally outboard. Calipers and discs have been carefully inspected and operate exactly as intended, giving the driver a confident and progressive pedal feel. Complementing this is the independent front suspension with wishbones and a single transverse leaf spring, and a rear suspension setup consisting of a beam axle with leaf springs and Panhard rod. Together, these components contribute to the Fulvia’s renowned poise and agility, offering a ride that is both compliant and rewarding a hallmark of Lancia engineering excellence in the 1960s. HISTORY First registered on the 1st August 1967, this rare right-hand-drive example stands out not only for its specification but also for its highly original documentation. The vehicle retains its original Italian log book complete with historical MOT entries, offering a fascinating glimpse into its early life and confirming its authenticity. Right-hand-drive versions were produced in extremely limited numbers, making this a true collector's find. Included in the history file is the original period workshop manual, an invaluable companion for both the enthusiast and the preservationist. More recently, the car has undergone a sympathetic light re-commissioning, ensuring the preservation of its character while improving reliability and drivability. A recent service included the fitment of a new fuel pump among other essential maintenance tasks, carried out with care and respect to originality. This is not just a classic car it’s an opportunity to own a slice of motoring history, presented in highly authentic condition and ready to be cherished by its next custodian.
