This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2025 on Saturday the 8th of November, NEC, Birmingham, B40 1NT. The Lamborghini Espada remains one of the most distinctive grand tourers of the 1970s, its sharp Gandini styling wrapped around a 3.9-litre V12 offering both performance and refinement. At the time of its launch, the Espada was positioned as Lamborghini’s flagship four-seater GT and remarkably, was even more expensive than the Miura, underlining its exclusivity. This 1971 Series 2 example has enjoyed long term ownership by Harry Metcalfe, founder of EVO magazine and presenter of the acclaimed Harry’s Garage YouTube channel, where it has featured extensively, amassing over 3,600,000 million views. Between 2020 and 2021, the Espada underwent a comprehensive engine and suspension rebuild by respected marque specialist Ian Tyrell, documented in detail on Tyrell’s Classic Workshop YouTube channel as well as Harry’s own. The car also benefits from power steering, significantly enhancing usability without compromising character. Prior to Harry’s ownership, during its well documented 1980s restoration, the Perspex roof and black wheel spinners were fitted, with the appropriate invoices in the car's history file alongside documentation detailing its registration change when returning from Jersey earlier in its life. In addition to its online fame, the car was featured in Octane magazine following its 1980s restoration, further underlining its significance within the Lamborghini community. It has also enjoyed notable concours success, including a class win at the London Concours d'Elegance in 2021 and prestigious Cartier Lawn displays at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in both 2016 and 2024. Designed as a true Grand Tourer, Harry has used the Espada as intended, driving it down to Monte Carlo among other long-distance trips. Most recently, in September 2025, Harry documented a journey across the Yorkshire Moors with his dog, Stanley, happily travelling in the rear seats. This trip demonstrated not only the car’s practicality but also that it has been mechanically sorted in recent times to ensure it drives exceptionally well. With considerably over six figures invested in its preparation and upkeep, this Espada represents very good value in our opinion. Presented directly from Harry Metcalfe’s ownership, it is a rare opportunity to acquire a world-renowned and beautifully prepared Lamborghini with documented provenance, concours pedigree, and proven touring capability. We welcome and encourage your inspection at the NEC in November of this very special motor car.
