The Honda SS50 is a classic small-capacity motorcycle that first appeared in the late 1960s, becoming a popular choice for young riders across Europe and Asia. Designed as part of Honda's “SS” (Super Sports) range, the SS50 combined sporty styling with a reliable four-stroke engine, making it both practical and aspirational for its time. It offered an affordable gateway into motorcycling, while still giving riders a sense of style and independence. At the heart of the Honda SS50 is a 49cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder four-stroke engine. Unlike many of its two-stroke rivals, the SS50 was built with Honda's focus on durability, fuel efficiency, and low maintenance. The engine produced modest power, but with a top speed of around 45-50 mph, it was more than enough for commuting, short trips, and youthful adventures. The inclusion of a four-speed manual transmission gave it a sporty edge and allowed riders to learn proper gear-shifting skills, something that set it apart from mopeds of the same era. Stylistically, the SS50 stood out with its slim fuel tank, chrome details, and spoked wheels, echoing the look of larger Honda sport bikes. It was light and easy to handle, which made it especially popular with learners and teenagers restricted by licensing laws. Its economical fuel consumption was another strong selling point at a time when affordability was key.

Originally registered on 10th August 1973 this Honda has formed part of a private collection in recent years. The vendor has always had the motorcycle garaged and as such it presents well today. These are not complicated machines and were proven to be very reliable. Over the years, the Honda SS50 has gained a reputation as a cult classic. Many examples were used hard and eventually scrapped, making surviving models increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts today. Restored versions are admired for their timeless design, dependable engineering, and nostalgic connection to an era when motorcycling represented freedom and fun. For many riders, the Honda SS50 was their very first taste of two-wheeled independence. Consigned by Stewart Banks
