HONDA RICKMAN METISSE CR750 - £8,000

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at Race Retro 2026 - Motorcycles on Sunday the 22nd of February, Stoneleigh Park, Stoneleigh Rd, Coventry, CV8 2LG. The Honda CB750 set new benchmarks for performance and reliability, but was considered heavy with average handling by some enthusiasts Derek and Don Rickman were successful international motocross racers from the 1950s and they developed their own nickel-plated Reynolds 531 frame, naming it Metisse In 1974, the Rickman brothers introduced the CR kit for the Honda CB750, based on their bespoke Reynolds 531 manganese chrome-molybdenum tubing frame which was designed to take the CB750 engine Rickman sourced the best they could find from British and European suppliers, including Italian Borrani 18-inch alloy wheels with British Dunlop TT100 tyres, Girling shock absorbers, Lockheed disc brakes, and a hefty Spanish Betor front fork. The kit came with all fasteners and stainless steel foot controls but you needed a donor Honda CB750 four, complete with carburettors, air filters, exhaust system, wiring loom, instruments and controls, and side and centre stands. Avon supplied a distinctive bright orange 29-litre fibreglass tank, seat and fairing to fit the Rickman frame and, as can be seen from our images, the result was a very handsome machine Dating from 1977, this example has been the subject of a total ground-up restoration, with no expense spared (the parts list totals almost £11,000) and many hundreds of man-hours invested The work included the frame re-nickled, rebuilt engine, new bearings throughout, new wiring loom, complete new braking system, new switchgear, tyres, wheels restored, battery, and a full Delkevic exhaust system Entirely new fibreglass parts (mudguards, tank, seat, side panels etc.) painted in the correct period orange, with all new decals to match With minimum mileage since the rebuild, this is essentially a 'new' bike that is running and riding well and ready to be enjoyed by her next owner Supplied with a spreadsheet detailing the costs involved in the restoration and illustrating that this superb restoration could not be replicated at anywhere near today's guide price UK-registered on a current V5C.
