HONDA CUB F - £6,500

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 13th November on Thursday the 13th of November. ackground:Launched in 1952, the Honda Cub F represented a major milestone for the Hamamatsu-based company. Designed as a “clip-on” engine to be fitted to a standard bicycle, the Cub F delivered affordable mobility at a time when Japan was rebuilding its economy and infrastructure. The model quickly gained popularity thanks to its low cost, ease of use, and rider-friendly design, which kept oil and fumes away from users’ clothing. Marketed with the slogan “the white tank and the red engine”, the Cub F was sold using a pioneering direct mail campaign and on an instalment basis, making it accessible to both men and women. By October 1952, 6,000 units had been sold, rising to 9,000 by December. Despite ceasing production in 1954 due to inconsistencies with third-party bicycle components, the Cub F laid the groundwork for the Honda Super Cub, the world’s best-selling motor vehicle. Today, the Cub F is recognised as one of the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan’s 240 Landmarks of Japanese Automotive Technology. The Bike:This example, chassis number 52-18633, is a rare survivor of Honda’s earliest two-wheeled production. It was purchased from a dealer in Japan and imported to Belgium, where all import taxes and duties have been paid. The machine presents in clean and complete condition, retaining rare original components including its distinctive headlight and control lever. The engine has not been started since import and may require recommissioning, though its historic significance arguably makes it better suited to static display in a museum or private Honda collection. As an early and foundational model from one of the most influential motorcycle manufacturers in history, the Cub F holds a special place in the evolution of modern personal transport.
