The Ford Capri 280 Brooklands represents the swan song of one of Britain’s most iconic sports coupés, a limited edition run that marked the end of a model which first appeared back in 1969. Originally intended as a small run of 500 turbocharged cars, production was revised, and the final series was launched as the Capri 280 Brooklands. Just 1,038 examples were ever produced, all finished in the distinctive Brooklands Green and fitted with a 2.8-litre fuel-injected V6 engine, a limited-slip differential, 15-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels, and a full leather Recaro interior. These features, combined with six deep-set dials dominating the dashboard, an AM radio/cassette and a lockable glovebox, made the Capri 280 the most comprehensively equipped road-going Capri ever produced. Supplied new in the UK by John Grose Ford in Lowestoft, Suffolk in May 1987, this particular example has led a remarkably cosseted life. Its provenance is impeccable, having been carefully acquired by a fabulous collector to be kept alongside his exceptional collection in a temperature-controlled environment. Over the years, the Capri has been carefully maintained and lightly used, resulting in an odometer reading of just 5,565 miles, all fully documented with past MOT certificates and supporting paperwork up to their purchase in 2017, where it formed a static part of the vendor’s collection. Remarkably, this car remains unrestored and unpainted, presenting in original condition with a subtle patina that belies its age. The Brooklands Green paintwork remains in excellent order, while the full leather Recaro interior is similarly well-preserved, offering a genuine time-capsule experience that is increasingly rare among surviving examples. Mechanically, the car runs and drives smoothly, though we would recommend a mechanical once over before returning it to regular road use. The Capri 280 Brooklands holds a special place in Ford’s history, not only as a fully loaded run-out edition, but as a car that perfectly encapsulates the appeal of the classic Capri: sporty, practical, and unmistakably British.
