The Datsun 510 was a series of the Datsun Bluebird sold from 1967 to 1973 and was first released in the domestic Japanese market in August 1967 and was officially launched in October 1967 as a four-door saloon, followed by a two-door saloon, five-door estate, and a two-door coupé. The rear-wheel drive 510's engineering was inspired by contemporary European saloons, particularly the 1966 BMW 1600-2 – incorporating an overhead camshaft engine and four-wheel independent suspension by means of MacPherson struts in front, and semi-trailing arms on the rear wheels. The styling is attributed to Datsun in-house designer, Teruo Uchino. Affordable performance combined with simple mechanics helped the Datsun 510 remain a popular automotive enthusiast's car for many years after its discontinuation and there are still many avid collectors around the world with significant numbers in the U.S.A, Australia, and New Zealand. This lovely 'Matching numbers' example is a 1971 Datsun 510 with a 1400cc Engine and it is finished in its original Olive Green (993). The car belonged to the same family in Patras, Greece for 49 years from 1971 up until 2020 and it comes with its original manuals and Greek customs clearance documents – which states that the car was directly imported from Japan in 1971 and shipped with a steamship called Laurita ♡ After sitting around for 7 years, it was sold by the original family to a collector in Thessaloniki, Greece in January 2020 and he drove the car non-stop from Patras to Thessaloniki - a distance of 300 miles without any issues whatsoever. After a programme of refurbishment it was advertised for sale on Collecting Cars Auction site in July 2021: https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1971-datsun-510-1-4 and it was purchased by a client of ours for €13,250 (£11,395). He flew to Thessaloniki to collect the car and over 5 days he drove it all the way back to London - 2,750 Kms (1708 Miles) without a single hiccup! The auction advert read: ''This Datsun 510 is a practical and charming 1970s classic, which benefits from an extensive restoration carried out within the last two years. While the interior remains highly original, its paintwork has been refreshed, and it now looks very smartly. Although not in concours condition, the Olive Green paintwork presents well with only a few tiny blemishes. It is a desirable classic car that would be a fine addition to a collection of Japanese vehicles, and a usable runabout to enjoy as a daily driver or a weekend cruiser.'' The car has been beautifully restored and although the interior is original, it is in excellent condition. It has had a new headlining, new carpets in the cabin and boot and it is mechanically excellent and drives beautifully. The car has just been registered by the DVLA with the period number plate MNH 239K and we will be servicing the car and giving it an MOT before sale. Further details and a full set of photographs and a video will follow shortly. Car on display @ our showrooms in South West London.
