1986 RW is a very special car with incredible provenance. This car is a genuine low mileage example with just 38,500 miles from new with a wonderfully documented history. Still retaining its original Coventry registration mark, our Daimler Dart was manufactured on the 1st April 1961, finished in Ivory with Red trim as it presents today. This matching numbers cars has also heavily featured in ‘Daimler V8 SP250 Dart’ book written by well respected Dart guru Brian Long. Adding further to the amazing story of this car is a world class body off restoration 12,000 miles ago, and the car has also had a huge level of expenditure on upgrades such as overdrive, rack and pinion steering, Grinter rear suspension, alternator, brake servo, and more comfortable seating to ensure this is one of the best driving Darts proving ideal for long distance touring. Steering components, original seats and hard top are with the car. Coventry Motor Mart supplied 1986 RW new to a Mr John Edward of Rugby and it was the cars second owner in the Coventry area who commissioned the thorough restoration. The photographs within Mr Long's feature on the car detail the extent of the work carried out on this very special SP250. From the point of the restoration in the mid-90s, the car had been MOT tested regularly showing gradual increases in the mileage showing little but regular use. Throughout the late 90s, the car took part in the Coventry Shakespear Run six times displaying its reliability from the meticulous maintenance and first-class restoration. The Dart spent the next 45 years in Coventry having had just 2 owners in that period before joining its third owner in Huddersfield, a place we know very well. The cars Huddersfield owner carefully documented his 12-year ownership detailing the no expense spared approach to maintenance. Notably, in 2008 a new windscreen was fitted along with a new brake servo, electronic ignition, a new mohair hood and hood bag, and new front brake discs. 2011 saw the Daimler subject to a complete rear axle rebuild and later in 2013 a new clutch plate was fitted, the flywheel was skimmed along with a replacement clutch master cylinder. The following year, the engine sump was removed and resealed, the rocker covers were taken off and the tappers were adjusted, along with a strip, clean, and adjustment of the twin carbs. 2014 saw the Dart appear at the 2014 Footman James Manchester Classic Car Show where it was photographed presenting exceptionally. A Scarborough based gentleman took ownership of the Dart in 2018 furthering the meticulous ownership the Dart had been subject to since its first registration. Throughout this period of recent ownership, the Dynamo was upgraded to a Dynomater, Rack and Pinion Steering was equipped, overdrive was fitted, the front seats were replaced with more comfortable modern styling, seat belts were fitted, and stainless steel wire wheels with Blockley tyres were fitted. On the road this Dart is sensational and it's driven to us faultlessly from Scarborough. The directness felt from the steering and the stopping power from the servo assisted brakes fills you with assurances through spirited driving. The V8 engine pulls strongly through the rev range making a delightful exhaust note as you go. Changing through the gears of the 4-speed transition feels tight and the car drops into overdrive smoothly. It's a fantastic drivers car but equally as impressive to look at with stunning, gleaming paintwork, a beautiful interior and stunning engine bay. The underside and chassis are first class, the attention to detail second to none, it's a true delight in every respect. This car absolutely ticks all the boxes. It's finished in correct colours, it's a low mileage, low ownership car, it has been restored to the highest standards and upgrades to ensure it's the ultimate in terms of a drivers Daimler Dart. Original components are with the car to suit the purist, this SP250 really does have everything.
