This Crossley has been in and out of our family since about 1962. My Father rescuing it from life as an abandoned tow truck and restoring it. Campaigned through the 1960's at VSCC trials and other events, it was sold late 1960's. I bought it back in 2018 approximately after sitting for more than 20 years unused. A year or two later, a 23-60 Vauxhall Landaulette entered my life of which most other cars I found would not beat it. The Crossley was one such car and I sold it to a good friend. This friend undertook a re-restoration of the car, correcting some of the errors my Father made in 1962, such as remaking the rear section of the body, as well as improving other aspects of it. In the final weeks of my Father's life, he decided when it was advertised late last year, that it would be nice to have something to think about, so it was undertaken to re-purchase the car for the third time back into the family. The improvements made have transformed it from when I sold it in 2020. A few of the items which were completed were as follows: New rear section of body (Dickey) to correct pattern (correcting incorrect shape from 1962). New wheels x 5 of Sankey pattern with cast aluminium centres and steel rims for the correct 820x120 beaded edge wheels. New leather hood to replace the shrinking (and incorrect) double duck hood from 1962 - This is correct for a Dr's Coupe. New 3.33:1 crown wheel and pinion (20/70 ratio). Engine overhauled with new Cooke Group water pump. Rewound Thomson-Bennett Magneto radiator flushed and repaired where necessary. Enamel badge repaired. Fully repainted. I bought it in late December, delivered back home in early January 2024. However my father passed away at the end of January and with driving the Vauxhall for my Father's funeral, have realised that the reasons for selling the Crossley in 2020 still as valid for now as they were then, so I must be realistic. I have many memories of my father to hold onto, the Crossley not the most recent.
