The first 2CV prototypes were created just before the 2nd World War – to meet the-requirement of a small utility car capable of being used for a variety of purposes, taking into consideration the needs of both agricultural community and town dwellers, which included the ability to deal with rough roads in the French countryside. Famously, these prototypes were hidden from the occupying forces during the War and re-emerged after the liberation of France for development to continue. A unique design in many ways and powered by an air-cooled flat twin engine, the car was eventually launched in 1948, with first deliveries commencing in 1949. Finding worldwide and enduring success, lasting 4 decades, the 2CV remained much as originally designed, although the engine grew from a puny 375cc unit, through 435cc to the final 602cc displacement in 1970, familiar to most today. The car was assembled in many countries, with production ending in 1988 in France and finally, in Portugal, in 1990. More than 3.8 million 2CVs were built. The 2CV6 Special model offered here was first registered new, in the UK, in November 1986. We know nothing of its history up until 2019, when it was part-restored by marque experts 2CV City of West Yorkshire, receiving a new galvanised chassis. It was then purchased by its current Guernsey-based owner and re-registered in the island in July 2019. Since then, it has been in use as a ‘daily driver’, being properly maintained and fully serviced annually. With regular maintenance, everything works as it should and the car runs and drives well. It was last serviced in December 2024 and benefits from the fitment of electronic ignition. The owner has new, uprated headlights ready to fit (supplied with vehicle). The Celeste Blue paintwork is in generally good condition, as is the bodywork as a whole, but does have some minor imperfections, which one might expect from an older and regularly used vehicle. The matching canvass roof is fully functioning and in good, lightly patinated condition. The simple interior is complete and in good repair. The cloth-faced seats are in excellent condition – likely having been renewed as part of the restoration works. A modern CD player/stereo is fitted. A solid and very presentable example of an iconic French automobile, in regular use and very good running order. A service record is held for the current keepers period of ownership. The car is currently Guernsey registered and we can assist with shipping (worldwide) and importation processes if required.
