Bob Jankel's Panther Lima is up for grabs

One of the first of the 1976 Panther Limas is being offered at auction next month. What’s more, it’s the maroon and black car that was owned by its designer, Bob Jankel.
The 2279cc Panther Lima will be included in Brightwells’ 4 March sale at Leominster, with an estimate of £10,000-12,000. ‘This was the Motor Show car as owned by Bob Jankel personally,’ said Matthew Parkin of Brightwells. ‘It is aluminium-bodied, rather than the usual glassfibre.’
The Lima was a two-seater roadster with Vauxhall Magnum mechanicals and floorpan. The original concept was based around a Triumph engine and Spitfire chassis, but when Leyland declined to get involved, Vauxhall took on the challenge. MG Midget doors were also used, and the early chrome bumpers were sourced from the Austin Maxi. More than 900 Limas were built before being replaced by the Kallista in 1982.
