1948 BENTLEY MK IV FREESTONE AND WEBB RAZOR EDGE - £38,000
1948 Bentley Mk VI Freestone and Webb Razor Edge Chassis number B389BC Registration number: 134 YUG Mileage shown: 64,395 B389BC was originally purchased by Mr Ibbitson of Hepworth to celebrate his company going public in 1948. HH and JF Ibbitson are previously recorded as trading in Yeadon, Yorkshire in the 1890’s as cloth manufacturers who supplied J Hepworth & Sons of Leeds; their building being in Clay Pit Lane. J Hepworth and Son gradually attained the status of the UK’s largest clothing company. They went public in 1948 and in 1952 acquired Leicester based retail store chain Kendall and Sons. After introducing the Next range of stores, the name of the Hepworth organisation was formally changed to NEXT plc in 1986. This rare and beautiful 1948 Bentley MK VI Freestone and Webb Razor Esge, registration 134 YUG, was designed and built by Freestone & Webb with elegant razor-edged styling typical of the period but surprisingly ‘modern’ as she was built without running boards. The exterior is finished in Mason’s Black with Ivory (Pepper White) side panels – much lighter than appears in photographs. The coachwork design is stunning and the paintwork is finished to an excellent standard thanks to the current owners commissioning a restoration. The ash frame and aluminium coachwork were fully rebuilt over a three year period and at great expense. The interior has been fully refurbished with Wilton Carpet, a new head lining in West of England cloth and sumptuous Napa leather to the seats and doors. She runs and drives beautifully and is certainly ready to go. New Whitewall tyres are fitted to the 4 corners. The car runs in silence with a silent powerful engine running cool & exhibiting good oil pressure.
