The Austin-Healey 3000 is widely regarded as one of the definitive British sports cars of the 1960s, combining elegant styling with strong performance and robust engineering. Evolving from the original four-cylinder 100/4 and the later six-cylinder 100/6, the 3000 introduced the more powerful 2,912cc straight-six engine and disc brakes to the front, transforming the model into a genuine grand tourer with competition pedigree. Produced from 1959 to 1967, the 3000 enjoyed considerable success in international rallying and endurance events, earning a reputation for speed, reliability and balance. The later BJ7 variant marked a significant step forward in comfort and refinement, featuring a curved windscreen, wind-up windows and an improved folding hood while retaining the classic Healey character and driving feel. Offered here is a 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ7 finished in striking jet black over red with red leather seats and matching carpets, a truly classic combination. Originally supplied new in Gibraltar and first registered in 1962, this splendid Healey returned to the UK in 1971. During the late 1990s, the car underwent an extensive restoration, the majority of which was entrusted to respected marque specialists JME Healey Ltd In 1997, the engine, gearbox and all body panels were removed to allow for a comprehensive body and chassis rebuild to a high standard. According to documents within the history file, further significant works have since been carried out to maintain the Healey, including the fitment of a new fuel tank, fuel pump, heater and starter motor. The front suspension was rebuilt with new springs, shock absorbers and king-pins, while a new steering box, brakes and shoes were also fitted. In addition, both the gearbox and differential have been rebuilt, and the car benefits from new wiring harnesses and a fresh hood. An older restoration, the Healey still presents extremely well, having mellowed gracefully over time and now displaying just the right level of character and patina. It is accompanied by a detailed history file including a Heritage Certificate, a wealth of invoices, driver's handbook and old MOT Certificates.
