BSK 940 represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a 1961 Austin Healey 3000 MKII with 30 years of highly successful campaign winning rally provenance (Monte Carlo 1st in Class, multiple Isle of Man rally winner as well as competitive positioning in many other events) with engine build and chassis optimization by Denis Welch. The car has been restored in 2015 and was further converted to a ‘touring’ specification here at Rawles Motorsport in October 2019. The car has not been campaigned since its refresh and is provided in great health with a full service provided here at Rawles Motorsport as part of the sale. The buyer can advise if they want the car prepared for the road or the rally stage and we will gladly prepare the car is instructed. Mechanical specification of this thoroughbred Healey is very high with a Denis Welch built engine (first built at welch in 2007 then further refreshed 2013/2015) including Cosworth pistons, fast road camshaft, tuftrided crankshaft, gasflowed original cylinder head, aluminium baffled sump, weber carburettors with ported manifolds, heavy duty clutch and lightened flywheel and a aluminium baffled sump. Gearbox is a straight cut centre change unit with competition overdrive. Suspension is rally speciation with uprated shock absorbers – surprisingly very comfortable on the road as well as being very capable off road. Brakes are dual circuit with disc brakes all round. The car has full safety equipment including front and rear full roll cage with door bars, foam filled fuel tank, electrical cut offs and harnesses. The body is equally well specified (emulating original works cars such as URX 727) with a all-aluminium body featuring works style front grille, works style side vents, louvred bonnet, works style oil cooler vents, twin front spotlamps, works style rally bootlid with reversing light, factory hardtop (as used on works racers) and silver 72spoke wire wheels with grippy Avon ZZ tyres. The body restoration was completed in 2015 from a bare tub with and all panels removed and chemically dipped to remove contaminates, the panels themselves heavily reworked and metal-finished to greatly improve quality and fit. Painted in the stunning hue of Jaguar Flag Blue Metallic finish is deep and dazzles in the sun. Excellent photographic and paper documentation of the restoration is present. Post cosmetic rebuild BSK was sent back to Denis Welch for preparation. In 2019 we converted the car to a ‘touring’ specification including dynamat covering to the floors, full custom black carpet set and low back black bucket seats with the aim of making the car enjoyable on the road as well as the rally stage. The engine is also suitably tuned now for the road. Overall this is a well thought out and built, well balanced Healey in current form suitable for enjoyable road driving or enthusiast level rallying. The car could easily be brought back to full rally specification should the new owner wish.
