1956 Oldsmobile 98 Starfire.

This multi award winning, Original matching numbers 98 Starfire is the only one of its kind in the country and one of only a limited number in existence today.

The Starfire name was first used by Oldsmobile on a one-of-a-kind dream car in 1953. Named after a Lockheed jet fighter plane, namely the F-94, this original Starfire was a 5-passenger convertible. From that moment on the Starfire name represented the top of the range convertible variant.
The 98 line was the most luxurious and expensive of the Oldsmobile range and as such had a four inch longer wheelbase to further distinguish it from the other, lower priced models. Selling in 1956 for $3380.

Naturally it had a long list of additional items fitted to aid driver comfort/convenience or maybe just to make the neighbours jealous. The cheapest of these add-ons was an exhaust extension at two dollars, whilst top priced option was air conditioning at a whopping four hundred dollars in 1956.
However, the most unique option to be found on this marque is the Phillips 7-inch record player. Fitted below the glove box it offered leading edge In car entertainment at the forefront of fifties technology.

Presented in its original colour combination, with matching interior, this 98 Starfire was offered with a Jetaway Hydra-Matic transmission, a padded dash, an electric clock, Dual power seats Power steering, Power brakes, Windshield washer, Deluxe steering wheel, Rocket spinner wheels, courtesy lights and back-up lights.

Owned and adored by the previous owner for 30 years and dry stored in a heated and dehumidified garage, she is only brought out for very special occasions.

Its last official outing was to the famous and much coveted Salon Prive in London (Formerly the Louis Vuitton car show). Winning best in class and featured on television.

Must be seen to truly be appreciated, this marvel of 1950s styling and technology.
