For Sale - Toyota Celica 1600 ST 1974 57,000 km - unrestored; unmodified; unmolested This must be one of the best-preserved, 1st generation Celicas available. It was built in November 1973 in Japan and shipped to France, where a mechanic living in the Dordogne bought it. He kept it for four years before passing it on to his son, who was also a mechanic. He used it sparingly before putting it into a garage in 1987, where it stayed until 2006. At that point it had driven just 46,000kms. It was then bought by a French classic car dealer who sold it on to me. I then gave it what was probably the longest run of it's life and drove it from the Dordogne to my home in Northern Italy. It has since been across the Continent a few times and is now registered in the UK. In the seven years I've owned the car I've put 10,000kms on it and it's never let me down. Apart from the usual recommissioning all I have done is put it on new tyres, replace the front section of the exhaust (the rear will need replacing pretty soon), replace the windscreen (the original was badly scratched) and the brake master cylinder - the rest is all as it was in 1974. The interior is perfect - headlining, seats, door cards; everything is as it should be, reflecting the low-mileage. Japanese cars of this era weren't much better than Italian ones for rust protection so it's just as well that the original owners painted all the seams, the inside of the boot and underneath the doors etc with sealant and the end result is a remarkably rust-free car. The only visible rust is the lip just under the boot lid which is just stating to go. There's been another coat of paint put on the car as well at some point and although it looks good overall, there is the odd run and some specks of dust in the coating. The engine runs smooth and quiet with very good oil pressure and no smoke comes from the exhaust. The five-speed gearbox changes smoothly and the car runs true and handles beautifully. The car comes with the original handbook, number-plates, inspection lamp, jack and tool kit. The original radio is in the dash and even the clock works. There's a indoor/outdoor car cover and a spare clutch and set of brake shoes included. The car has been a part of a six-car collection (including another TA22 Celica) which must now be sold. The cars have been kept in a heated garage, have never been out between November and March and have had nothing but lavish care. This is both a collector's piece and a stylish, usable retro-classic. Cars of any kind don't come along often in this kind of original, unmolested condition and TA22 Celicas are now very rare and highly collectable. Please contact me for further information and photos
