1973 FIAT FURGONCINO 500 Furgoncino - £12,995
Fiat 500 Furgoncino (Van) Classic / LHD / 1973 / 49K Miles / 3 Owners Restored & Mint - Unique Investment Opportunity @ £12,995
We are truly privileged to offer to the market this fully restored & highly desirable Fiat AZ Autobianchi 120 Z Furgoncino 500, (Thats as noted on the log book!) or as commonly know a 500 Furgo. This is a 1973 model being UK tax exempt with the correct suicide doors & is a genuine LHD original factory produced Furgo, not a converted Giardiniera!
This lovely example of the baby Fiat commercial vehicle has arrived direct from Cremona, just south of Milan in Northern Italy. It was first registered new in Brescia in the same region, so has never travelled far! On arrival we undertook a full bare metal restoration here in our workshop to the highest standard on what turned out to be a very straight & honest example. (You can never really tell until you strip them back to bare metal).
It retains the original matching 499cc engine, which along with the rest of the mechanicals received a full strip & inspection, with a replacement programme as required. The body work has now received the aforementioned bare metal, full professional repaint, including the engine bay & rear loading area in the original shade of light blue. It has a recorded mileage of only 49,066 miles believed correct & has only had 3 Italian owners from new.
The current is an Italian gentleman whom kept this example as part of his own private collection after the vehicle retired from service. It was tucked away by the owner in his barn until he part exchanged it with a local Dealership! We received the call from the dealership that something a bit special had just turned up. Our buyer jumped in his own 500F & was there within 2 hours. We have copious pictures of the Furgo there, & prior to it being loaded onto a closed transporter ready for its journey to our shores, where it now has a UK Nova certificate, fresh UK MOT & is ready for the new owner to register, which we can help with or indeed register it ourselves, if required.
Since arrival & being in our possession, we have been meticulous in our preparation of this unique vehicle prior to offering it to the market, by undertaking the following comprehensive works to high professional standards: Full painstaking glass out bare metal repaint in the original colour of Fiat light blue. The original panels, sills, doors, floor pans etc were as expected, found to be in good original condition & thus only required a small amount of new metal being let in & replaced. The car was sprayed in 2-pack epoxy etch primer before being shaped to better than factory standards, then primed with 3 coats of high build 2-pack primer. Then flatted & painted with 2 coats of quality 2-pack gloss. To complete this masterpiece the vehicle was flatted back before being machine polished to perfection. This included the rear loading bay also, boot compartment & engine bay along with petrol tank etc. We also removed the tyres from the road wheels & shot blasted back to clean metal, then refinished these to factory specification along with fitting the 5 new correct Italian Cinturato tyres & new chrome hub caps.
We painted the engine bay along with a comprehensive strip down & test of the engine & components which were found to be again in good order & thus were painted to factory specifications & reassembled with new gaskets & seals as required, along with a full & thorough service. We fitted a new quality 3 piece clutch set, new exhaust along with the brackets, hangers, elbows & again all new gaskets. To reassemble the vehicle we fitted the following quality parts: New complete clutch unit, several steering components, front bearings, front brake cylinders, front brake pipes, Varta premium battery, new front & rear bumper sets with associated spacers & bolts etc, new front headlight chrome bezels. Checked & overhauled the brakes, flushed & new fluid, window washer pump. New gear lever gaiter, st steel hub caps, correct period water washer bag & pipes, spare wheel strap, jack straps, front badge, decal kit, head lining, sun visors, new engine rubbers, grommets, seals & trims, new oil filter cap. Number plate holder, chrome effect windscreen wiper blades along with all service items, fuel filter, air filter, points, rotor arm, premium coil, carb kit, NGK plugs, oils, fluids etc. We have also under sealed the vehicle with Wurth spray gun applied quality under seal to protect it going forward for the next 42 years of its life. Filled the freshly flushed & painted petrol tank with £25 premium unleaded fuel, fitted a 500 key ring. The vehicle has also been professionally valeted including the engine bay & machine polished, it presents beautifully.
With labour, materials & parts we have spent in excess of £5,500 on this unique vehicle (Thats not including the vehicle in the first place & transport!) & have adopted the same attitude to perfection as we take when restoring an £85k+ Pagoda.
The history file that accompanies this vehicle contains: Original Italian log book, Original Italian Automobile Club DItalia Certificato Di Proprietra, UK NOVA certificate, Fresh current UK MOT, Specialist parts invoices, Colour images of the vehicle in Italy prior to our purchase, Copious colour restoration pictures detailing our comprehensive works through to completion. Club details etc

It certainly appears a genuine low mileage example & is now resplendent in its original colour that it has always worn. It must surely be one of the most unique in the world. Can you find another for sale? I doubt it, we have been searching for 3 years to find a good genuine example & this is it! As a result when these vehicles ever come to the market the prices achieved are not cheap, there are only 4 in the UK, (I sold 1 of them last year) & I am told by a leading Italian authority & this is number 4 of 4!
You could actually use this example for every day use, business promotion, transportation to the Revival, or as a contender at classic car shows & be proud of it in any circumstance.

Free historic road tax.

The widespread use of the 500 Giardiniera for work based activities led Fiat to develop a specific commercial version, which came out from the factory as a small van and could be sold as a cheaper alternative to the 850 or T 128. The Furgo minivan 500 was marketed in parallel to the Autobianchi Giardiniera, also from the Milanese brand. The body was equal to that of a 500 and the transformation into a commercial vehicle occurred by mounting a pair of metal panels, sheet printed in place of the rear windows and a metal roof screwed in place of the canvas one. Inside, instead of the rear seat, was mounted a metal deck that would make the entire horizontal load floor, with the motor mounted below, accessible by means of a hinged access door. To avoid the goods moving around in transit & striking against the driver, a metal rail was installed behind the seats. The Furgoncino was a much loved sight on Italian roads & finally went out of production in 1978.
This cheeky chappie is great fun. These models are ever increasing in value & a good Furgo is not only a pleasure to drive but a great & unique investment opportunity. This is naturally reflected in the price that needs to be achieved for the vehicle. Find another with this mileage, low ownership & as original, in fact just find another!
The number plate shown is for show purposes only & does not form part of the sales offer.
