1959 TURNER 950 - £18,000
This Turner 950S had a full nut and bolt restoration over a period of roughly 16 years by my late father after he had acquired it as a wreck from a barn near Hastings in 1979. The chassis was professionally welded, the engine was fully restored and bored out to 998cc, then converted to use super unleaded fuel. As far as I am aware all other components have been replaced and upgraded where appropriate. It has electronic contact-breaker less ignition system, servo assisted disc brakes on the front and thermostatically controlled electric cooling fan. The car has four new tyres (and a spare), a new hood, removable window panels and a tonneau cover, new seats as well as a selection of spares and appropriate manuals. Since it is pre 1960 there is no MoT, or car tax required and insurance including break down cover (for my wife) is around £150 per annum. It starts and runs well, the car is fully restored, however I believe it would benefit from further work such as a new wiring loom to ensure all the electrics work properly, as currently some do not. The dashboard could equally be updated. There are also a couple of minor stress cracks near the bonnet since the bodywork is fibreglass. Unfortunately, I do not have the skills, or the space, to carry out this work because I cannot even physically get into the car! It has been valued by the Turner Sports Car club at £15,000 and the registration plate has independently been valued at £5,000. Offers above £20,000 would secure it for the next owner. A race prepared Turner 950 S is still for sale at Bicester Heritage Center and is being advertised for £34,000, therefore this is a fair price that reflects the rarity and condition of our car.
